Out on a friends farm in Cornwall a week ago before I developed then dreaded lurgy. Came across this pasture find at 7 inches deep. Came through fairly well if not a little bit clippy one way.

Two words.....Dig everything!! I would normally have missed this one but now I am getting used to the sound of flaky deep coin signals and the difference between those and iron.

A fine specimen, Charles II maundy 3 pence 1680. Most pleased with the excellent condition and aged tarnish on the coin.

Settings were slightly different, Gain 5 DD-9 DL-5. I raised the silencer to  2 as there was a weird pulsing signal nearby. Usually set on 0.

Be wary of the silencer as on deeper coins as it effectively eliminates "iffy" signals, better to lower the  threshold. Use as a last resort!!! I initially had the silencer on 4 and would have missed this one.....

To make it worse it was hot rock city down there with many coal like bits giving me nice signals.

Found with 12 other copper worn discs, Georgian and Victorian and one very very worn silver "disc" hammered half groat.

Happy hunting!

PW, yes all but the surface ones. I like to leave surface discrim switch on III as it makes deeper hammered clippy. Could have picked up enough coal to fuel a power station....

Hi bignellie, Think all your settings were a little high next time try, Gain 2, dd 8.5, dl 3, thres 4, then that coin would have come in nice and clear.
